Back pain specialist Dr Stephen North has opened a new specialist treatment unit in the Newton Abbot district on the edge of Dartmoor.

The clinic is located in Ilsington and will provide a wide range of therapies for all types of back problems.

For those suffering mild back pain through to those needing longer term treatment for complex conditions the clinic has planned extensive facilities to provide relief and rehabilitation.

With a deep warm hydrotherapy pool; physical therapies, remedial massage and remedial exercise treatments the clinic will be run and equipped to provide relief and recovery.

Dr North said: "Back and joint pain can range from being a mild nuisance to being completely debilitating. Any form of pain is intrusive and is to be treated as soon as possible. By taking simple remedial measures back pain can be diminished and in many cases eliminated completely."

Dr North said the pool at the new clinic is ideal for more intensive one-to-one rehabilitation with heating and equipment in place to treat a variety of conditions.

"People who have suffered from stroke, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fractures and other similar conditions, or who are getting over surgery will all benefit from the hydrotherapy," he explained.

"We will continue to offer one-to-one physiotherapy-based hydrotherapy at the new clinic and hydrotherapy will be available to anyone who wants it for any condition that is likely to benefit from guided exercise in water."

Dr North's long-established and nationally-known clinic at Staverton will continue to run for some months until the new clinic is fully operational.

The new clinic will replace the old one as the closure of the pool facility at Staverton reduced the availability of hydrotherapy.

Dr North added that the new clinic would provide consultation, examination, diagnosis, treatment, education and distant-management support for patients.

Dr North said: "I am excited to be opening our new clinic in the Newton Abbot district which will mean our patients will be able to have exclusive use of our specialist facilities when they are undergoing one-to-one treatment and rehabilitation."
